Over the summer, kids have an amazing time lounging around, going to the beach and playing summer sports. This year however, several baseball teams from San Diego as well as Southern California journeyed to New York for a week and a half to play in the Cooperstown Dreams Park Annual Baseball Tournament.

Our Encinitas representative was the Encinitas Juice, they finished 20th in a tournament of 105 teams and there seems to be many great experiences to be remembered from this trip to Cooperstown, New York. “I will definitely remember playing on the amazing fields in Cooperstown nearly everyday, with my friends”, says Juice infielder Jake Hagen, who happens to attend Diegueno.

“When teams arrive in Cooperstown, they are shown their sleeping areas in dorms.” Taylor Butterstein, another player on the Juice said, “ The dorms were very nice and when we didn’t have games, we were always trading pins with other players.” Even though the Juice played games almost every day, every Juice player came back to Encinitas with a bag full of baseball pins. Theo Lewis claims that his pins are the best and the rarest including a blackout elite, the golden swarm, and a red buffalo (which only the best pin traders know about).

Every player that has traveled to Cooperstown has had one experience on or off the field in New York that made the trip even better, this moment came for Griffin Wilson when he robbed a home run and smashed into the wall, Griffin says,” I robbed the dinger(homerun)!”This year’s Cooperstown baseball tournament has resulted in many amazing memories for players as well as the countless family and friends who journey to Cooperstown, New York this summer to simply play baseball and have an experience to last a lifetime.
