On November 19, 2018, it was revealed that Ivanka Trump had been using a personal email account to send hundreds of emails concerning government business as of last year, and contacting administration officials with the personal email Ivanka and her husband set up. Using a personal email account to address government related business is a violation of the federal records rule. The same scandal that Fox News and president Trump are calling “false news” has been so hypocritically used as a slogan for many Trump supporters. Chanting “lock her up!” at Trump rallies is common ammo used by republicans to fire at democrats. However, the backlash of Ivanka’s personal email server being used is minimal compared to the uproar Hillary Clinton recurved for using a personal email address to discuss government business. I interviewed eighth grader Hailey Armentrout, asking her if she believed the responses to both email situations were at al different in her opinion. “So how can Trump and his supporters label Ivanka’s violation as “false news” but chant “lock her up” to imply Hillary should be in jail for her email scandal?” While the right-leaning news show “Fox & Friends” spent months degrading Hillary for her emails, when they covered Ivanka’s emails, a brief 25 seconds was spent discussing her emails. When asked if the coverage should be equal, Lauren Coffman of eighth grade said, “While I don’t really follow politics, I do think that coverage time for both incidents should get a relatively equal amount of screentime.” Do you think the reaction to Hillary Clinton’s email scandal in comparison to the reaction of Ivanka Trump’s email scandal is fair, or inconsistent?
