Going Back to School?
By Capri Brick and Scarlett Smith
While going back to school might seem like a dream right now, have you actually thought about how it would be if you went back? I know most of us would like to go back to school, I do too, but just think about how that would play out, as well as the consequences. We would have to wear masks all day in order for protection. Imagine wearing a hot, sweaty mask for hours. Doesn’t sound so fun, does it? Or what about staying six feet apart at all times? All the desks would probably be spaced out far enough to the point where you can’t even reach out and touch the other person’s desk. Not to mention, if you did go back, there would probably only be half, or maybe even less than half, of the people there. They would have to cut down the amount of students that go there at one time to lower the risk of getting COVID, so that means your friends might not even be there with you.
I’m sure your teachers would love to teach you in person as well, but even though they will be farther away from students than you would, that doesn’t mean they can’t get infected either. Imagine how hard it would be for teachers to teach too? They have to sit around at a desk and monitor every little move that every single person makes in order to keep everyone safe. From the principles point of view, they have to do the same thing. Their whole job right now is yes, teaching, but the main priority is making sure everyone is safe and doesn’t get infected. Like I said earlier about the masks, your teachers would have to wear masks too. That makes you kind of unlucky if you have to sit near the back of the room because the mask can make talking a bit muffled, so you might not be able to understand what the teacher is saying, which means you might not get what’s happening. I know online school can be kind of a drag here and there, but it’s only to keep everybody safe. You, your teachers, your friends, can all get COVID. Lastly, if you do manage to get COVID-19 while at school, you would bring it back home with you and infect everyone there. I’m sure you don’t want to get your parents, siblings, or pets sick to get sick? Right? This is why we are doing online school. It is for everyone’s safety. You have to remember to be safe because life will all go back to being normal eventually.
