Students Have Mixed Feelings about Returning to School

Presley Thompson, staff

During the past year, schools have shut down because of Covid-19. As students are slowly going back to in-person school there have been different opinions about whether it is safe or not.  Our district is planning to re-open partially in January. I have collected data from Diegueno students on how they feel about going back.

I asked ten different students if they think going back to school will feel like jail or will they be glad to not be home. Two people answered jail.  Four people said they’d be glad to not be at home.  Four students were in-between the two options.  I personally am in between the two options.  This is because I’ll be happy to see other people besides my family members at school, but we will have to wear masks and social distance which will be hard to do.

The year 2020 has really thrown everyone curve balls. Based on my survey, students have different opinions about going back to school. There doesn’t seem to be a right answer.
