Shannon Messenger, author of bestselling series, Keeper of the Lost Cities has just released her latest book in the series. Book 8.5, Unlocked came out on November 17, 2020. If you pre-ordered the book then it was delivered to you on Nov. 17. For those of you who plan on buying it in stores it is now available for you. Read this article at your own risk, there may be spoilers!
I highly recommend the Keeper of the Lost Cities series. It is a series of 9 fantasy books, (technically 8.5). With main characters Sophie Foster, Fitz Vacker, Keefe Sencen, Biana Vacker, and many more, you will be taken on an adventure through the lost cities. I recommend this series to you because it keeps you on the edge of your seats and there are just so many action packed pages that you will never be left wishing for more information.
Now about Unlocked. When author Shannon Messenger revealed that the book would be 8.5 no one knew what that meant. Now that it has been released the information as to why it is called book 8.5 can be revealed.
Book 8.5 starts off at the exact scene that Legacy left off of. Shannon describes making this book an 8.5 because she needed to throw in something more special. All the other books in this series are told from Sophie’s point of view. But in this one it is not only Sophie’s, but Keefe’s too. Something that is also special about Book 8.5 is it includes top secret files, recipes, coloring pages, and other fun information you might find enjoyable and interesting.
Is this a good book? I think yes! It is a great book. I enjoy all Keeper of the Lost Cities books, and while I enjoy all the info I can get, this one felt a little short for me because the book was mainly focused on the extras. More than half the book was the exclusive extras, although I was hoping for more book. In this book there are no encounters with the Neverseen, and basically no action whatsoever. Although there have been rumors flying around about Keefe dying. I will leave you to read the book to find out about that one though. 🙂
In conclusion, I recommend reading Unlocked, book 8.5. Although it wasn’t what I was expecting, (and now I’m not excited to wait a whole nother year for the next one) it is definitely worth the read. You should read this book because it has exclusive information, and two points of views instead of one. If you haven’t read the series I recommend that as well.
