The summer Olympics have expanded every year in the amount of competitors going from 280 competitors when the Olympics were first started to more that 11,000 in the 2016 summer Olympics. Every year hundreds of people attempt to get into the Olympics, but only a choice few actually get selected. So how are competitors and sports selected for the Olympics??

Getting into the Olympics as an athlete is a difficult and rigorous process. You need to have trained from an early age and have the necessary resources to train. Many people even start at the age of 4 to 5. Then, you must commit yourself to constantly training. This requires a complete devotion to your sport. You will also need to find a coach and training facility. Also, to prepare yourself for competing in the Olympics, you should start participating in local or bigger tournaments to get used to the pressure.

To get into the Olympics, you first need to start attending national championships because that is where athletes are scouted for the Olympics. Then, you need to find a country to represent. To be allowed to compete for a country, you need first be accepted as a citizen, though this isn’t very hard to do if you are an elite athlete. Then, you need to qualify for the Olympic trials and be on the top of the competition to make it. After that you should move to an Olympic training center and start training full time. When the Olympics start closing in you need to rest and prepare your body for the final test. Finally, you need to want to win. If you would rather be taking a vacation in Hawaii than be partaking in the Olympics, you won’t have as high a chance of winning because you will not be playing to your fullest extent. If you follow these tips, you may have a chance of getting into the Olympics.
