This year on August 28, Disney Television Animation released the movie “Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Candace Against the Universe” on the streaming service known as Disney+. This was a delightful film that made me smile and laugh a multitude of times.

The story begins in Danville during summer as Candace Flynn, voiced by Ashley Tisdale, attempts to relax, only to seek out busting her brothers instead. Her internal conflict is clear as the intro song goes back and forth from a peaceful and cheerful tone to an angry and distressed one. After another failed attempt to bust, she runs into Vanessa Doofenshmirtz, voiced by Olivia Olson, having a heart-to-heart with her and voicing her fears of being “a tiny, meaningless speck in the universe, completely overshadowed by Phineas and Ferb”. Before this can be addressed, the two are abducted by aliens and taken to a mothership. Candace manages to get Vanessa off the ship but ends trapped on it by herself. She is then taken to a planet by the name of “Feebla Oot”. At the same time, Phineas Flynn, voiced by Vincent Martella, and Ferb Fletcher, voiced by David Eriggo Jr, get their gang together to find a way to get back their sister. After building a portal, they accidentally find themselves with Dr. Doofenshmirtz, voiced by Dan Povenmire, instead of with the aliens. It is soon known that he was trying to get to the aliens as well in order to save his daughter. They decide to team up to save their loved ones, taking Doof’s spaceship to get to them. Unbeknownst to the group, Perry the Platypus snuck his way onto their spaceship after receiving orders from HQ to save Candace and keep his family safe. The story then goes on to show a marvelous space filled adventure.

Throughout the entire movie, I thoroughly enjoyed the incredibly unique songs that were played as they emphasized the energy of each scene, as well as added comedy to them. They gave me nostalgia for all the wondrous songs Phineas and Ferb has produced over the years. Aside from the songs, the plot was interesting as it gave a whole new experience within the Phineas and Ferb universe. It’s a great adventure spanning throughout space and all the way to another planet. What furthers the plot is the scenery, and let me say, the scenery in this film was phenomenal. Over the years of Phineas and Ferb, we have seen lots of Danville, a bit of the ocean, and even small parts of space, but we have never seen an entirely new planet. This

film showed us a well-developed and vast new environment, introducing new species, plants, and an entirely new society of people. Not only that, but the new planet had a completely different color scheme which just makes you feel like they really are on another planet. Aside from the scenery, I really appreciated the character growth. Candace starts out feeling super insignificant. She gets brought up only to be taken right back down, which leaves her feeling even worse than before. By the end, however, she receives a truly heartwarming scene with her brothers. It warmed my heart to see Candace learn and grow and for her to realize what’s really important to her.

I would most definitely recommend this movie to anyone. It has beautiful character growth and a compelling plot paired with astonishing music and scenery to enhance the film. The characters get closer to each other without physically being together for the majority of the movie.
